1. Keyhole gallbladder removal surgery
2. Weight loss surgery
Have you ever considered keyhole gallbladder removal surgery as a weight loss tool? Well, I recently underwent this procedure and although I don’t recommend it solely for weight loss, I did manage to shed 3kgs in just one week. In this article, I want to share my personal experience, the reasons behind my decision, and the impact it had on my body and lifestyle.
The Decision to Undergo Keyhole Gallbladder Removal Surgery
Before diving into the details, let me clarify that choosing to have keyhole gallbladder removal surgery was not solely driven by my desire to lose weight. It was a carefully considered decision made in consultation with my healthcare provider. The primary reason behind the surgery was to address the issues I was facing with my gallbladder.
The Surgery Day and Recovery Process
On the day of the surgery, I embarked on a journey towards better health. The procedure itself, known as laparoscopic cholecystectomy, involved making small incisions in my abdomen to remove the gallbladder. It was a minimally invasive surgery, which meant less pain and a quicker recovery time.
While recovering, I had to be mindful of my diet. For the first two days, I couldn’t eat anything due to the surgery and recovery process. This unintentional fasting period, coupled with the reduced portion sizes my body could handle, contributed to the initial weight loss. It’s important to note that this weight loss was not the primary goal of the surgery, but rather a side effect of the necessary dietary adjustments.
The Impact on Portion Sizes and Eating Habits
Post-surgery, my body could no longer handle large portion sizes. This forced me to reevaluate my eating habits and adopt a more mindful approach towards food. I now focus on consuming smaller, nutrient-dense meals throughout the day, which has not only aided in my weight loss journey but also improved my overall well-being.
The Importance of a Balanced Diet
While the surgery played a role in jump-starting my weight loss, it is crucial to emphasize that a balanced diet is key to sustainable and healthy weight management. Surgery alone is not a magic solution, but rather a tool that can be utilized in conjunction with a well-rounded approach to nutrition and exercise.
Physical and Emotional Transformation
My weight loss journey after the surgery has been both physically and emotionally transformative. Shedding those extra kilos has not only improved my self-confidence but has also alleviated some of the physical discomforts I experienced prior to the surgery.
It’s important to note that individual experiences may vary, and it’s essential to consult with healthcare professionals before considering any surgical procedures for weight loss.
While my personal experience with keyhole gallbladder removal surgery resulted in some weight loss, it is crucial to approach such procedures with realistic expectations. Surgery should never be seen as a quick fix for weight-related concerns, but rather as a decision made in consultation with healthcare professionals to address specific medical conditions.
If you’re considering any weight loss journey, it’s always recommended to consult with a healthcare provider who can guide you through the process and help you make informed decisions about your health.
Whilst I don’t recommend keyhole gallbladder removal surgery as a weight loss tool, I did lose 3kgs last week. Probably down to not eating for 2 days (surgery day and recovery day) and having very small amounts as my body couldn’t cope with my usual portion size..
