Italian Nationals Heiner Junior ‘Heinzl’ Oberrauch and Andreas Junior Widmann Identified as Victims of Terrace Heli-Skiing Crash

In an unfortunate incident, two of the three victims of a recent helicopter crash near Terrace have been identified as Italian citizens. The accident happened during a heli-skiing expedition and has left the outdoor sports community in shock.

The Victims

Italian media outlets have identified the two men as natives of South Tyrol, the northernmost province of Italy. One of the deceased is Heiner Junior ‘ Heinzl’ Oberrauch, a well-known figure in the region. His brother, Jakob Oberrauch, who is the CEO of the Sportler Group, an outdoor sport clothing company, was also on the trip and was seriously injured. He is currently receiving treatment in the hospital.

The other Italian victim was Andreas Junior Widmann, a successful entrepreneur in the textile sector. The identity of the third person killed, who was not an Italian national, has not been disclosed yet.

The Incident

The accident occurred about 50 kilometres northwest of Terrace city. The ill-fated helicopter was one of three choppers involved in a backcountry ski trip. The crash site was discovered after the other helicopters lost contact with the aircraft.

Antonio Tajani, the Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, expressed his condolences on social media, sharing the grief of the families involved. He assured that the consulate would provide all necessary assistance to those injured.

Ongoing Investigations and Support

The cause of the crash is currently being investigated. Northern Escape Heli-Skiing, the company that owns the helicopter, is actively cooperating with the authorities in the probe.

The company has also stated that it is providing support to those affected by the tragedy. They emphasized their commitment to safety, stating that while they take every precaution to minimize risks during backcountry activities, it is impossible to eliminate all hazards associated with outdoor sports.

The incident has brought the risks of outdoor adventure sports into the spotlight and has left the local and international community mourning the loss of the victims.
